I’m quite into classical music at times, and my favourite colour is pink.

I grew up in Horowhenua, down Levin way, and then moved up to Auckland at about the age of eight. I really value integrity in people, walking the walk and doing the right thing when others aren’t around, and a lack of hypocrisy. I think that’s quite a bad trend that seems to be coming through in culture.

When I was studying at uni, being a vocalist I would listen to lyrics too much while I was studying, and it just wouldn’t let the information go into the head. Classical music helped with that, because there generally aren’t any vocals in it. It just created a whole bunch of  scenes in my head that you, you don’t get from a lot of contemporary music. It sometimes makes me feel like a bit of a psychopath, which I like.

I guess that people don’t initially think that I’d be into (classical), a lot of people at first glance would think I’m into metal, which is probably my least favourite music genre. I guess with the tattoos and the beard and everything, it’s just not really where people would box me, and coupled with pink being my favourite colour. I guess it’s just about preconceptions of people, when you first meet them, but there’s a whole lot more to people than at first glance.

The colour pink, that was from a young age. I was always just attracted to the bright, the bright colour of it, and also I guess, even at that age, the fact that it was a kind of gender-fuelled colour. It was weird for a child to have that, but it still attracts me, but now it’s generally in the colour of women’s clothing.”
